Affectionately known as "Kay," she was a resident of Prairie Village, Kansas for 55 years, working 32 of those years at the local Jones Store at 71st and Mission Road. Kay was a member of the Prairie Baptist Church and a sister of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Sondra Kay Thurston was born on August 21, 1937, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1955 and Business School two years later.
Sondra Kay married Charles W. Cooper, deceased, in 1959. They are survived by two daughters, Cheryl Autrey, Overland Park, Kansas and Beverly Zachariah, Lenexa, Kansas; four grandchildren: Nick (Christen) Middleton, Raytown, Missouri, Benjamin Middleton, Shawnee, Kansas, Courtney (Joshua) Zachariah, Weston, Missouri, Dustin Dreiling, Leavenworth, Kansas; and two great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Sondra will be held Monday, August 1, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A committal service will occur Monday, August 1, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
