Simona Garcia was born to Adolph and Maria Morales on August 6th, 1932 in Chicago, Iliinois. The family later moved to Kansas City, Kansas. During her childhood she spent a number of her formative years confined to a hospital room and bedridden. Doctors said she would never walk again, and as we all know, she overcame that challenge like she did so many challenges in her life.
After losing her father, Simona completed her GED equivalency through a vocational program that gave her the skills to be a cosmotologist. She later married Nicholas Garcia and became a homemaker for their five children. Over the years she warmly cared for grandchildren and various other family members from her home.
Simona was a mother of five to daughter Stevie and “My Boys” Danny, Dudie, Fatso, and Kiki. She gave all of her children their nicknames, she thought cute little kids deserved cute kid nicknames. Her children gave her eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Simona was a lifelong Catholic and found particular solace in the Virgen de Guadalupe and St. Anthony. She often gently guided others towards finding their own path to faith.
For many years she attended her senior citizens group three days a week. There she played bingo, enjoyed potlucks, celebrated birthdays and holidays and made many good friends. She was known for her generosity and fun spirit. She showed up with extra presents at Christmas, in costume at Halloween, and she was always everyone’s Valentine.
Simona was an avid reader. She enjoyed a good mystery and a good love story. She loved music of all kinds from Country to Mexican rancheras, to the Beegees. Later in life she would tell stories about how she’s always wanted to be a singer and enjoyed singing alone or with her favorite comadre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Garcia; her parents, Maria and Adolph Morales; brothers, Alfred, Jesse, John, Joseph; and her sister, Margarita Morales. She leaves behind her sister, Irene and husband, Anastacio Batrez; brother, Adolph Jr. and wife, Tony Morales; daughter, Yvonne and husband, Bernadino Vidauri; sons, Gary and wife, Michelle Garcia, Nicholas Garcia, Simon and wife, Michelle Garcia, and Thomas and wife, Debbie Garcia.
