Shirley was a nanny and seamstress following her graduation from Stewardson-Strasberg High School. She was also a military wife traveling all over the world to most of Don’s various assignments, including Texas, Illinois, Hawaii, South Carolina, Germany, New Jersey, France, England, and back to South Carolina. After Don retired from the Air Force, he and Shirley settled in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Shirley was a talented seamstress, making a lot of the children’s clothes when they were younger. She was also a wonderful cook, with everyone enjoying her fried chicken, homemade noodles and dumplings, as well as her salads and desserts. She loved watching the Royals’ games, tennis and many, many westerns. She also loved reading until macular degeneration and dementia made it impossible.
After retirement, Shirley and Don loved traveling in their RV across the country visiting family, classmates, and service friends. She loved their trip to Alaska where she enjoyed seeing wildlife and the whales.
