She attended the University of Lincoln at Nebraska, where she earned a Bachelor's degree and met Professor Robert G. Anderson whom she married on August 25, 1956. Five children followed between the years of 1957 and 1964: Kiley, Rob, Tom, Dan and Lynn and she eventually enjoyed 9 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Shirley was a busy mother and homemaker, raising 5 rascally but smart children. Later, Shirley began a long career spanning 30 years at the IRS, where she made many longtime friends, with whom she enjoyed many lunches, outings and traveled with on occasion.
In Shirley’s early 50s, she struck out on her own, moving to Overland Park, KS. She continued to enjoy her friendships, was a voracious reader and was a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge. Shirley took country line-dancing classes, attended the Unity Church for a time and had a lovely singing voice, and especially enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower garden. She also enjoyed visiting local gardens and viewing art in the city’s galleries.
In April 2018, Shirley made her final move to the retirement community known as the Atriums where she again formed new friendships, enjoyed the ever changing seasonal and holiday décor and delighted in playing (and especially, winning!) Bingo, was a member of the book club, and enjoyed visiting with her fellow residents during Happy Hour, as well as trips on the Atrium bus to various locales around the city.
Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit the MO/KAN area in March 2020, Shirley was dutifully vaccinated, but as lockdowns prevented visiting of both fellow Atrium residents and family members, Shirley gradually declined and more recently, became bedridden and never recovered, passing the morning of November 7th, 2021.
May those of us who loved Shirley – daughter, wife, mother and grandmother – take comfort in knowing she is Home in Heaven now, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and resting in eternal peace, while we celebrate her Life of Love for her family and of beauty and of knowledge.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Kiley Kathleen Myers and her child Jordan Myers & grandchild Jasmine Wheeler (Shirley’s great-grandchild); her son Robert Glen Anderson and his children Grant Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Michael Anderson & Melissa Anderson; her son Thomas Lee Anderson and his children Lee Anderson, Lane Anderson & Luke Anderson; her son Danny William Anderson and his child Shane Anderson; and her youngest daughter Lynn Annette Erickson.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mtmoriah.net for the Anderson family.
