Mr. Seth "Doug" Douglas Simpson

Doug was born in Bosworth, MO to Seth and Hazel (Grossman) Simpson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patsy Mattox and nephew Roger Mattox.

Doug grew up in Tina, MO and moved to Kansas City, MO after graduating from Tina-Avalon High School in 1952. He briefly worked for Yellow Freight and attended business college before starting his career with the CB&Q Railroad and retiring 45 years later from the BNSF. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served 2 years. Doug’s career with the railroad took him to jobs in Nebraska and many locations in Iowa before returning to Kansas City in August of 1983. During his career, he was a member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Network.

Doug had many passions in retirement, often saying “there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done”. He was an avid reader of non-fiction, a history enthusiast, a lover of day trips, staying current with modern events thru the internet, bird watcher, dog lover, a huge sports fan, and most of all his grandchildren’s biggest fan by attending and supporting them in whatever endeavor they pursued in life be it in athletics, academics or the arts.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ella Charlene (Cully) Simpson, daughter Julie Ann Miller, her husband Rob Miller, son Stuart Douglas Simpson, his wife Stacy Simpson. 5 grandchildren, Will Miller, Ben Miller, Sara Simpson, Sami Simpson and Seth Simpson and 1 great-grandchild, Lily Miller.
