Sally D. Quinn

Sally Drew Quinn passed away at her home in Mission Hills, Kansas on February 5th 2018. She was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Sarah Louise (Whitman) and Dr. Charles Walter Drew where she spent her childhood years. Upon graduating from College High School, Sally ventured back east to Roanoke, Virginia to attend Hollins University. After a brief taste of the east coast, she returned to her home state to attend the University of Oklahoma and then transferring to and ultimately graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute where she pursued her passion for art.

Sally then moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked directly for Stanley Marcus at Neiman Marcus in Public Relations and Communications. Dallas was also where she met the love of her life, Hal Quinn, at the time of their meeting, finishing his master at Southern Methodist University. Hal proposed on their second date and they were soon married in 1955.

Sally then began her seventeen-year journey with Hal while he worked for General Motors starting in El Paso, Texas; Minneapolis, Chicago, Lansing, Michigan; and Boston. In 1973 Sally and Hal decided to move closer to their families and relocated to Kansas City where they lived happily together for over forty years.

In addition to being a “super mom” supporting her four son’s pursuits in the Scouts, Skiing, Football, Baseball, Tennis, Swimming, Music, Preforming Arts and one of her personal favorites, horseback riding. Sally was extremely active in the community. Sally’s list of community service is long including being a member of the Westport Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution, an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 50 years, and serving in multiple capacities for the Ozanam Home for Boys, American Cancer Society, and always supporting her passion for the arts as a member of the Kansas City Ballet Guild, Kansas City Symphony and in the Society of Fellows at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, as well as being an active member of the Village Presbyterian Church.

Sally is survived by her Sons; Drew, David, Douglas, and Daniel; daughters-in-law Jennifer, Becky, Stephanie and Tara; thirteen grandchildren, Camille and Caleigh; Sean and Lauren; Taylor and Schuyler; Jacob, Dylan, Harrison, Isabel, Mahlet, Tigist and Johnny; along with close cousins Jeanie Bennefield, David McKeithan and Mary Anne McKeithan Knowles. She will be deeply missed by all!

Burial services will be private. A Memorial Service will take place at 12:30 pm Saturday, February 24th at The Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. A reception will be held directly following in Friendship Hall at Village Presbyterian Church.
