Russell Richard Ferguson, also known as Dick, passed away February 20, 2014 at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, KS. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at the funeral home.
Richard was born December 9, 1922 to Hamilton and Stella (Donaldson) Ferguson in Lenox, IA. After graduating from Lenox High School in 1940 he was employed by Green Bay Lumber Company in Clarinda, IA. In February 1944 he met Dorothy Kenagy and they were married March of 1945. This union was blessed with a daughter, Karen Lee.
During the next 20 years they moved to several towns, where Richard managed lumber yards. In 1961 they moved to Des Moines where Richard became Vice President & Sales Manager of H.M. Iltis Lumber Company. In 1986 he became associated with Leachman Lumber Company. Richard retired in 1992 at which time they moved to Overland Park, KS.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy of 57 years, his parents, sister Maxine and husband Vern Swanson, and Jack Swanson. He is survived by daughter Karen and husband Brian Evans; grandson Brent and Jennifer Evans; great-grandsons Owen and Benjamin Evans; nieces and nephews John, Kay and Jane; and numerous sisters and brothers in-law, extended family and friends.
