Rosie was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her life was her family, her faith, her friends and her music.
Rosie was born November 10, 1922 in Kansas City, the third child of George and Marie Breting of Kansas City. She attended St. Teresa Academy in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Visitation High School in Detroit, MI. In 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Walter “Babe” Oades, who predeceased her in 2006. Over the years, she and Babe were members of Redemptorist, Guardian Angels, Visitation, Christ the King and Cure of Ars Catholic parishes. Mom & Dad celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Mom’s working career was spent at the Visiting Nurse Association, Hall’s on the Plaza and Swanson’s Stores where she was consistently a “Star Sales Associate.” She was a member of the interfaith Panel of American Women. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Cure of Ars, attended daily Mass and sang in the Fatima Choir and anywhere else music was being played, as music was always part of her day!
Rosie had a wonderful sense of humor, and was always a favorite Mom to all the kids in the neighborhood….her door was always open. She was an awesome cook with the ability to create fantastic meals at the last minute for many a hungry grandchild. Her list of friends goes on and on: from the neighborhood, from the parishes, and in the incredible community at Santa Marta where she enjoyed her last three years.
Rosie will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Denise Oades of Overland Park, KS; Jeanne Hokanson (David) of Leawood, KS; Patty Oades-Vogt (Larry) of Jupiter, FL; and three sons John (Ann) of Dallas, TX; Bill (Peggy) of Leawood, KS; Hank (Mary) of Kansas City, MO; her former son-in-law, Hal Souther, Jr. of KCMO; her 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves two sisters, Mary Jane Layne of Big Timber, MT and Nolene Garcia of Sugar Land, TX.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Breting of Columbia, MO, and Hazel Oades of Troy, MI. She is predeceased by her brother George L. (Bud) Breting Jr. and three brothers-in-law, Paul Oades, Joseph Garcia and Kenneth Layne.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to everyone in the Santa Marta Community and the KCK Catholic Community Hospice for their loving care for Mom and support for the family. Contributions may be made to Catholic Community Hospice at 9740 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212.
………..And God will raise you up on eagles’ wings………………..
