With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rosa Ross (nee Gonzales) of Kansas City, Kansas on April 21, 2013. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 30, 1946, Rosa was raised in Kansas City’s Westside, attended Redemptorist High School, and graduated from Menorah’s Nursing Program. Rosa dedicated her nursing skills to geriatric and Alzheimer patients. Rosa also volunteered for various organizations, including work as a Parent Liaison for the Homeless for Kansas City Kansas Public Schools, USD 500. Rosa assisted in the annual book supply giveaway by the USD 500 serving thousands of children, and operated a booth for several years at the Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Kansas City, Kansas. Rosa also volunteered for the Gracious Promise Foundation serving clients in the community in times of crisis. Rosa shared much joy with her music, as she was an accomplished musician. Spanning several decades, Rosa’s accordion playing started as a young child, playing for Mayor H. Roe Bartle’s Annual Christmas Party.
Rosa is preceded in death by her father, Raphael Fonseca Gonzales, mother, Frances Ramirez Gonzales and brother, Felipe. Rosa leaves behind her children, Mary Yvette Borjas of Salina, KS, Ramon Borjas III and wife Juliette of Elgin, SC, and Samuel Richard Ross and wife Brandi of Iola, KS. Rosa also leaves sisters, Teresa Lupton and her husband Steve of Blue Springs, MO, Florence Borjas of the home; brothers, Raphael Gonzales, Jr. of Independence, MO, Miguel Gonzales of Burton-Upon-Trent, England, and Arthur A. Gonzales of Utah. Rosa deeply loved and cherished her 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Rosa was loved by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins. She will be greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Sacred Heart-Guadalupe Church, 26th and Madison, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, with a Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO Burial will follow Mass in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
