In his youth Roger was an Eagle Scout, he graduated from Southeast High School 1960 and went onto the University of Missouri-KC. where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Pharmacology. Most of his working career was in retail pharmacy where later in his life was spent working in hospital pharmacy.
Roger loved all sports however, bicycling and tennis was his first love! He loved bicycling so much he belonged to the KCBC Club where he participated in racing and long distance riding. He rode all over the US and even parts of Europe. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially golf & hockey, with everything in between! One thing Roger enjoyed was writing a good Christmas letter if you did not receive one you were probably on the naughty list!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna Merceda Hughes; father, T. Arthur McCarty; and sister, Linda Leible. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis McCarty of 43 years; daughter, Michelle McCarty; and his siblings, Dennis (Judy), Dan (Valerie), Bob (Jean), Greg (Karen) and Shan McCarty. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces & nephews. Roger also had many dear friends including; Doug & Colleen Post, Ken & Maryann Palmquist, Bert & Beth McClary, along with his breakfast buddies; SEHC club from Southeast High School.

A visitation for Roger will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
