Robert "Bob" E. Diehl, 87, passed away August 25, 2019. Bob was born on September 21, 1931 in Bedford, Iowa and moved to Kansas City at the age of 5. He graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Missouri and the University of Central Missouri.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Carpenter, in 1952. He served in the army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA where he was a High Speed Radio Instructor. Upon returning to Kansas City, Bob started his career with the Kansas City Athletics and then moved on to a long career in the trucking industry, working first as claims manager for Chicago-Kansas City (CKC) and then retiring from Yellow Freight. Although his "day job" was in the trucking business, Bob kept his passion and connections to the Kansas City professional sports world and continued to sell tickets for both the Kansas City Royals and the Chiefs.
Bob loved to play golf and tennis, travel and spend winters in Arizona. He was an involved member of North Cross Methodist Church where he served on many committees, performed volunteer work and sang in the choir. He was also proud to serve as Vice-President of the Central Alumni Educational Foundation.
Bob never met a stranger and loved to tell a good story. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. A kind and generous man who leaves behind many good friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Diehl; his father, W.N. Diehl; his uncle, John Chudley and his brother Roger Diehl.
Bob's family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at McCrite Memory Care and Catholic Community Hospice for their compassionate care during his illness.
