Rafael Rodriguez

Rafael Rodriguez, 91, passed away peacefully; surrounded by his loved ones at St. Luke’s Hospice House on May 26, 2018. Rafael was born October 24, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jose and Francisca Rodriguez. He married the love of his life, Mary Santillan, October 27, 1945. That union produced four children who they raised with love and devotion.

Rafael was a hard worker all his life. He had to work from an early age to help support his family. He had various jobs and retired from U.S. Supply after twenty-two years.

Rafael was originally a member of Sacred Heart Parish. He was a tireless volunteer, working within the church, the school and with various athletic programs. He was also a proud leader of Boy Scout Troop77. Rafael then joined Guardian Angels Parish and was a contributing member for over fifty years. After retiring, he was able to devote even more of his time and talents to the many workings of the Parish. He served as Athletic Director for ten years and was an active member of the Holy Name Society. He also received the prestigious Bishop’s Award for his dedication to Guardian Angels.

Rafael was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his sister Lupe Quijas, his brother Manuel Rodriguez and his grandson Joseph (Joey) Rodriguez Jr. Rafael is survived by his children Joe (Marsha), Michael (Ann Bode), Rosanne Alba (Frank) and Frances Mendoza (Gilbert), brother Joe Rodriguez, Jr. He leaves six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and good friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Rd., KCMO. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, KCK. Visitation will be 5-7pm Monday, June 4, 2018 at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., KCMO. In lieu of flowers, they family suggests a donation to Guardian Angels Parish.
