Paul was born on January 24, 1949 in Lakewood, Ohio. He graduated from St. Edward High School in 1967 where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the school’s hall of fame in 2018 for his athletic achievements. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 1971.
He made his career in sales as a manufacturer’s representative and co-owned a business, SBH & Associates. Paul retired in 2010.
He had wonderful friends, including a group of classmates from St. Edward. They call themselves the Tontine, and they gather every year for football and friendship.
Paul was a man of faith and prayer. He attended a Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP) retreat, prayed weekly in the Adoration chapel, and was an active member of the men’s group at his parish, St. Michael the Archangel. He gifted friends and family with crosses that he hand-painted.
Paul was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed hiking and skiing in the Colorado mountains, a well-made Manhattan with a good cigar, history books, and milk shakes with his grandchildren. He loved his beautiful wife, family, and friends most of all. In Paul’s words, he had a wonderful life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marion Becka. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Patty; two daughters, Kim (Joe) Wantschik and Krista Becka; three grandchildren, Paul, Alex, and Emilie; and two sisters, Diane McDonald (Loren Schepers) and Dorothy (Rick) Dudas.
