Patricia Ann Garcia

Patricia “Patti” Garcia, age 77, died on March 19, 2022. Patricia was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 6, 1944, to parents, Modesta Hernandez and David Hernandez. Patricia was proudly raised on Kansas City’s Westside, alongside 11 siblings, and attended Redemptorist High School.

She was the light of her family’s life, exuding joy, love, and kindness to all those she met. There was never a sports game of her grandchildren’s that she missed or a birthday party that she didn’t plan. She was active not only in the lives of her family, but also at her parish, St. Agnes. Patti helped found Our Lady of Guadalupe Alter Society at St. Agnes, serving parishioners, students, and community members over the years.

Patti always knew how to make someone laugh and how to comfort someone during hard times. Among other things, she loved reading mystery novels and cooking everything from lemon bars to her famous enchiladas. Those who walked into her home were always welcomed and could feel her love from the moment they walked in the door.

For the last seven years, Patti battled Alzheimer’s, but she woke up every morning with strength, courage, and a love for her life.

Her spirit lives on in the lives of those she leaves behind, including her four children, BJ (Regina) Garcia, Melissa (Tomas) Melgoza, Maryann (Scott) Hueschen, and Melinda Garcia (Martin Wehrenberg), ten grandchildren, and her beloved husband and life partner of 54 years, Robert “Bob” Garcia.

She is also survived by her sisters, Josie, Loretta, Leonor, and Gloria; and brothers, Robert, Richard, and Steven.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Modesta and David Hernandez; her brothers, David Jr. and Larry; and her sisters, Teresa and Victoria.

A rosary will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 5:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Rd, Roeland Park, KS 66205.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Agnes School, 5130 Mission Rd, Roeland Park, KS 66205, c/o Patti Garcia Scholarship/Endowment Fund.
