Orval was born March 19, 1924, to O.C. & Janie (Elliott) Null on the family farm in Montevallo, MO. He attended Glenwood Elementary through eighth grade and earned his GED in 1970.
On June 10, 1944, Orval was inducted into the Army. After basic training he was shipped to Hollandia, New Guinea, from there to Luzon and was assigned to the 32nd Division on February 22, 1945. In November 1945, Orval was assigned to second port ship service HQS Co at Manila until discharge in April 1946. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart, American Theater Service Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with two battle stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one battle star, the Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Orval received an honorable discharge on April 11, 1946.
February 11, 1947, Orval married Rosemary J. Clark in Ft. Scott, KS. Two children were born of their union, Terrance Michael and Connie Sue.
Orval was a farmer and heavy equipment operator until 1966 when he moved his family from Milo, MO, to the Kansas City area. He was the maintenance supervisor for the State of Missouri’s Kansas City Regional Diagnostic Clinic for 22 years. After retirement, Orval enjoyed traveling and working on his farms. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed family dinners and always put his family first. Orval and Rosemary moved to Raymore in 2007.
Orval was preceded in death by his siblings Arthur Null and Jewell Fleming, and nephews Sonny Null and Jerry Fleming, and great grandson Jackson Dale Rodgers.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Rosemary J. Null; children Michael (Nancy) Null of Cleveland, MO, and Connie (David) Fisher of Peculiar, MO; grandchildren Daniel Edward Fisher of Raymore, Beth Ann Null (Dale) Rodgers of Peculiar, Rhonda Lynn Fisher (John) Criner of Belton, and Michael Sean Fisher of Peculiar; great grandkids Alexander, Taylor, Lucy, and Sarah; as well as nephews Delbert Fleming of Wichita, KS, Johnnie Null and Randy Fleming of Nevada, MO.
