Michael “MIKE” E. Fries, 57, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Sept. 30, 2012. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with the rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 3rd, at McGilley Memorial Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO, 64145. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 4th at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2 E. 75th St, Kansas City, MO 64114. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery following the Mass with a reception in the church hall afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association in Mike’s name.
Mike was born Feb. 16, 1955, in Kansas City, MO, to Dolores M. Fries. He was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School, class of 1973, and received his Associate of Arts from Penn Valley Community College in 1975. Mike and Diane raised their children in Christ the King Parish. Mike was a devoted husband, father, brother and son and humbly touched the lives of many people. He endlessly contributed to the needs of his community and church. Some of his favorite roles included being a basketball coach for his daughters’ teams and being a lifelong supporter of their athletic organizations. Support included time and organization of food donations. He also enjoyed giving his time and effort to the Step-Out Walk for Diabetes for the last 4 years.
Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Maurer. He is survived by his wife, Diane M. Fries of the home; children, Alicia Fries of the home, April Stautzenberger and husband Ben, Ashley Penland and husband Jed; mother Dolores M. Fries; siblings, John Fries, Paula Ising, Tom Fries, and Steve Fries; mother-in-law, Alice M. Schmidt; brothers and sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. We miss you Dad.
