Michael Glenn Maskill

At Miege, he enjoyed playing football and being on the wrestling team. It was also at Miege where he made many lifetime friends.

He was ornery from the start; he was a both a challenge and a joy to be with. To say he often found himself in unique situations would be an understatement! From convincing his little sister to help him eat a bottle of yummy baby aspirin, chasing an ice cream truck several blocks as a four-year-old, cooking bacon and eggs with is 2-year-old sister while his mom and dad were sleeping, to hosting a party for all Miege while his mom and dad were out of town. The list goes on and on.

At eighteen, Michael bought his first motorcycle and so began his lifelong love for riding. He made many trips with his dad and friends. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States and reading about U.S. history. He was a voracious reader, and when he was too tired to read, he enjoyed listening to audio books. He was a Trekkie at heart and relished finding Star Trek collectibles.

Michael was always planning his next vacation. He loved to fish and enjoyed hunting and target shooting. He had a great passion for cooking, researching new recipes and trying new restaurants. He was a devoted Chiefs and Royals fan. Michael was full of pride for Kansas City and loved calling it home. He always had a profound respect for the military and law enforcement, but due to the loss of vision in one eye as a young child, he was unable to serve in that capacity. He finished his career at Harcros Chemicals where he worked for over 20 years.

He was a gentle and generous soul who had a genuine love for Jesus. He will be greatly missed by his sister Stephanie and brother-in-law Steve, his sister Megan and brother-in-law Gary, his sister Jenny and brother-in-law Bruce, his niece Savanna, and his nephews Oliver, Jared, Brandon, and Connor.

His friends will always treasure knowing him, as one of his friends so perfectly stated:

“Mike was a friend whose loyalty could never be measured. He was always and forever made of class, gentle and generous. I never heard him speak a harsh word about anyone, never saw him lose his temper, never raised his voice or tone, and always shared his faith. He was a man most men strived to be but not reach. Mike likely never knew the depth at which he touched so many lives, but the lives he touched will never forget him.”

In lieu of flowers, Michael would be honored if donations were made in his name to Catholic Charities, Wayside Waifs, or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
