Left to cherish his memory are his children: Connie Royal, Kansas City, Missouri; Mark (Debbie) Moeller, Rockwall, Texas; Marcia Russo, Conroe, Texas; & Jon (Cathy) Moeller, Independence, Missouri; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Merv was preceded in death by Lois Lundquist Moeller, his wife of 49 years; his parents Art & Loretta Moeller, his siblings Maralyn Moeller Powlish and Arlin Moeller, his second wife Eileen Caffey Moeller, and his son-in-law Vic Royal.
Born and raised in Wheaton, Minnesota, Merv served as a school patrol guard and played most sports. Following graduation from Wheaton High School in 1944, Merv entered the US Navy serving in the Pacific during WWII and recalled during the Korean conflict.
Following completion of Business College in Minneapolis in 1948, Merv and Lois began their marriage in Washington, DC where Merv was employed as an accountant and they began their family. In 1964 Merv was promoted to a division controller for the GEM Stores and the family transferred to St. Louis and later Kansas City. He began a second career as a letter carrier for the US Post Office in 1968, which he truly enjoyed until his retirement in 1988.
His beloved wife Lois passed away in 1998. After his second marriage, Merv moved to Laurie, Missouri, in the Lake of the Ozarks where he greatly enjoyed continuing his bowling and horseshoe passions. An accomplishment before retiring from pitching in 2013, Merv received first place in the Horseshoe Pitching Association’s 2013-14 Top Ten awards in the category of 30-foot men’s high game over-average. Merv enjoyed attending the Lake’s Jazz Society concerts as well as extensive traveling. Throughout his life, Merv was always active in his church, the VFW and the American Legion. A major highlight in Merv’s life was to be a part of the Central Missouri Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, in 2009.
Merv instilled in his family his strong faith and work ethic and the value of family. Memories include yearly vacations to Minnesota, trips to the beach and mountains, and evening ballgames in the backyard. Merv served as an example in his appreciation of others. His legacy will be treasured by those who loved him.
The family appreciates and is so thankful for his loving caregivers of The Gardens at Barry Road and Ascend Hospice. Suggested memorials are to a charity of your choice or to Ascend Hospice at 783 NE Anderson Lane, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.
