Maura Martin Smith, 71, of Leawood, KS passed away on July 10, 2023 at home surrounded by her daughters. Services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Visitation from 12:00-1:00 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 1:00 pm. A private burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
Her surviving family includes daughters Lindsay, Courtney, and Alexandra, and brother Michael. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen John Smith, in 2013.
Maura was born November 1, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Cecile Martin. She attended St. Mary’s College (‘73) in Notre Dame, IN. This is where she met the love of her life, Owen, with whom she would be inseparable through 39 years of marriage. After graduating, Maura earned a Masters of Library Science from Simmons College, Boston, MA. Her career highlight was her position as librarian at Somerset Elementary School. Maura maintained a deep love for St. Mary’s College and the many friends she made from her years there and through the KC Alumna Club. She will be greatly missed as a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend.
The family would like to thank all her friends, local and afar, for their love and unwavering support. Additional thanks extend to KC Hospice for the excellent care she received in her final months.
