Mary Ann (Miller) Hense, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 22, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ann was born on June 20, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the oldest and last surviving of four siblings, born to Robert W. and Mary Jane (Tierney) Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Patricia (Tricia) McNeive, her great-grandchild Michael Maloney III, her sister Martha (Miller) Roult and Charles Roult, brothers Robert E. and Richard W. Miller, and brother-in-law Thomas Higgins.
Mary Ann married the love of her life, John (Jack) Hense on November 25, 1950. She was the caring and dedicated mother of six children, Marcia Shaffer (Jeff), Houston, TX, Jeanine Maloney (Mike), Wichita, KS, Karen Goehausen (Paul), Leawood, KS, Tricia McNeive (Jim), Kansas City, MO, John Hense, Jr. (Jennifer), Leawood, KS, and Rob Hense (Pamela), Lake Forest, IL. Mary Ann was known affectionately as Mimi to her nineteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mary Ann would also want to acknowledge her supportive relatives Carol Miller, Bernadette Miller, Ray and Martha Hense, James Hense, Mary Ellen (Hense) Higgins, Rev. Michael Tierney, Marilyn (Miller) and JM Thies, and their families.
Mary Ann attended St. Francis Xavier grade school, Bishop Hogan high school, and graduated with honors from St. Teresa College (now Avila University), and was a member of Who’s Who in America’s Colleges. She was a member of Curé of Ars Catholic Church for more than fifty years, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, president of the Women’s Club, member of the Bereavement Committee and Funeral Committee. She was also a charter member and officer of the Serra Club of Johnson County, past president of Marillac Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and Christmas in October volunteer.
Mimi loved to travel and take walks with Jack, bake banana bread with her grandchildren, and pray the rosary faithfully. The Rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m., Monday, February 26, with Visitation to follow until 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, 66209.
