Martha M. Mitchell

Martha was born on December 1, 1935 in Bonnots Mill, Missouri; a daughter of the late John A. and Georgia (Peters) Oidtman. She was united in marriage on November 10, 1962 to Roy Mitchell, who preceded her in death on November 10, 2018. She was a devout and active member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri. Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed nursing, was an avid tennis player and golfer. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and siblings.

Martha is survived by her sister, Jeanne Porting; her 2 children, Jeanelle (Chris) and John Michael; grandchildren and a great grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by 4 sisters, one brother, 5 bothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, a son, and a grandson.

The family would like to thank the priests and the parish community at St. Mark’s Church. Also, thank you to caregiver, Maria Castenada and all the nurses with Shalom Hospice.

Services for Martha will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee's Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. A visitation will start at 9:30 AM with Rosary prayed at 10:30 AM and Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11:00 AM. Committal service will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N. River Blvd., Independence, Missouri 64050. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, Missouri 64055 or Focus.org.
