On January 17, 2017, Lucy Lamb passed from this world on to her reward in heaven. Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5-8pm with the Rosary recited at 5pm at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10017 E. 36th Terr., Independence, MO 64052. Mass of Christian Burial 10am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the church. Burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Lucy was born September 5, 1931 in Osage County, MO near a town aptly called Rich Fountain. It was the beginning of the great depression and she was raised on a very frugal, 100% German farm. She was an excellent student and had a photographic memory for such things as phone numbers and accounting details.
Her husband to be, Paul Lamb, came home from service with the US Army in World War II, and at the suggestion of his mother, he met Lucy Rehagen, the girl that was winning all the ribbons. Lucy admitted that it was love at first sight and she and Paul were married in 1951. They had a loving and fruitful partnership that produced 7 children over an 18 year span, from Good Friday 1952 to Good Friday 1970.
Longevity and consistency were two words that describe Lucy and Paul’s example to their children. Paul worked at Amoco Oil Company for 30 years and Lucy was the church secretary at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church for 46 years, from 1961 to her retirement in 2000. Their marriage lasted 55 years until Paul’s passing in 2006. Their legendary vegetable stand was shared with so many for over 60 years. After Paul’s passing, Lucy continued to garden, nurture wonderful house plants and manage several real estate properties, up until three weeks before her death.
It is difficult to put into words all of the loveable traits of Lucy Lamb. She was the constant rock at Nativity Church as new pastors came to unfamiliar territory. She loved making deals at the annual rummage sale and she taught each of her children that they could be and achieve whatever they desired, if they worked hard for it. In her later years, she remained healthy and active, enjoying Royals games, family get togethers and traveling with her family.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elias Rehagen; daughter, Angela Marie Lamb and husband, Paul Lamb. She is survived by her remaining six children: Dr. Bonnie Ruyle (David), Conrad Lamb (Sheri), Dr. Jerome Lamb (Carri), Larry Lamb (Teresa), Patrick Lamb (Mary Raple) and Timothy Lamb (Vickey Baux-Lamb); siblings: Henrietta Luecke, Agatha Maagen and George Rehagen; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Gigi”.
Lucy will always be remembered for her smile, positive attitude, and years of loving service and support to everyone that knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or it’s Altar Society. Online condolences may be left at www.mcgilleysheil.com.
