Lisa Carol Covington, 44, Lenexa KS, passed on June 16 2014 at Kansas City Hospice House from breast cancer. Memorial Services will be at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. She will be cremated and her ashes will be spread on her favorite beach. In lieu of flowers the family suggest Memorial Contributions may be made to the Blake and Brennon Covington Educational Fund, c/o McGilley State Line Chapel.
Lisa was born on September 27, 1969 in Milan, MO. She was a Kirksville High school graduate. Earned her Bachelors Degree from Baker University. She moved to California when she was 19. She met her husband Jim Covington in Hermosa Beach. They raised their two boys Blake and Brennon in Kansas City, MO and Lenexa KS. Lisa was an incredible artist in painting and loved creative projects. She worked in human resources for Sprint, Ferrell Gas and New Directions Behavioral Health. Lisa battled breast cancer for 13 years. During those years she worked, was an amazing mother and wife, while also being a devoted philanthropist for Susan G Komen, Young Survivors Coalition, Race for the Cure, Relay for Life and the list goes on and on. She was always a support system for the newly diagnosed to give them hope and counsel. She was also a singer for the rock band Peabody's. She sang the National Anthem at the KC Chiefs NFL Game at Arrowhead, The Royals at Kauffman Stadium, T-Bones and KU Jayhawks Basketball game. She loved helping others no matter what struggles she had of her own. She came alive and believed in creativity, fairness and enjoying laughs, love and her family.
She was preceded in death by and will welcomed in heaven by Julie Ann Nichols (aunt) Eva Sue Coin (maternal grandma) and Rita Mae Glidewell (paternal grandmother)
Survivors include: Jim Covington, her husband. Blake James, eldest son. Brennon Jacob, her younger son. Chavon Swartz, sister. Neil Swartz, brother in law. Lucas Nelson, nephew. Rockwell Oren, nephew. Eric Glidewell, brother. Linda Glidewell, mother. Oren Glidewell, father.
