LILA LEE (PETERSON) HAWKINS Lila Lee Hawkins, age 84 passed away May 30, 2016 at Hidden Lake Care Center. Visitation will be Saturday June 4th at 1:00 pm at D.W. Newcomer’s Floral Hills Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm at the chapel, with graveside services following at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Lila Lee graduated from East High School and attended Huff Business Collage before marrying her childhood sweetheart, Gale. She lived on Camp Pendleton in California and worked in Oceanside during her first two years of married life. Returning to K.C. she spent the rest of her life as part of a family team building a business that started out with one punch press into a nationally known lawnmower replacement parts manufacturer. She held the office of Secretary/Treasurer. She loved to match wits with buyers through her letters and in the early years she researched and designed their first catalog that took them nationwide. She also liked to call on customers and attend trade shows. She retired in June of 1987 to home life, travel and community activities. She especially enjoyed outings with her “Red Hat” sisters. She will be greeted in Heaven by her mother and father, Fred and Opal Peterson. She leaves to mourn her death her loving husband of 64 years, Gale Hawkins, of the home; aunt: Kathryn Matteson; cousin: Bonnie Holden. Also Eddie Woolridge & wife, Renee’, and dear friend Edie Ratty, whom she loved like a sister, and LaVaun Fletcher, as well as other relatives and friends.
