Leona Marie Walker Troop

She was born to Roscoe and Nellie Walker on December 9, 1929, on a farm near Golden City, Missouri. She married Joseph Eugene Troop (deceased 2002). Their mutual love of God’s international people led them to become Southern Baptist missionaries to Brazil from 1960 to 1994, living mostly in Itabuna, Bahia. They retired to Kansas City, Missouri where they continued to be active in their local churches. Leona enjoyed teaching Sunday School class. She also enjoyed international travel, visiting Europe several times.

Those left to cherish her memory include all of her six children: Bruce and his wife, Vicki of Kansas City, MO; Bryan and his wife, Antoinette of St. Louis, MO; Brenda and her companion, Alfred Kimmi of Everest, KS; Bernie and his wife, Joyce of Parkview, MO; Bonnie and her husband, Alfredo Costa of Buerarema, Brazil; and Boyd and his wife, Anne-Lise of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, over 20 great grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews. Of her five siblings, Ruthie (Rod) Hendrickson (nee Walker), survives, she lives in Carthage, MO.

A visitation for Leona will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64133. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Committal service at Mt. Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave., Independence, Missouri 64053.
