LEONA P. BARKER Leona Barker, 97, passed away peacefully February 27, 2016. Leona was born June 7, 1918, in Sibley, Missouri. She graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1936, and worked at Unity School of Christianity for 35 years. Leona married Bernard Barker in 1936, and in their 65 years together, they enjoyed fishing, ballroom dancing, and spending time with their cherished family. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Lyle Bingham, and her son-in-law, Walt Graves. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Melich, and her husband, Larry; Marilyn Graves; four granddaughters: Nancy Dyer, and her husband, Don; Marlene Campbell; Jill Rodgers, and her husband, Larry; Corrie Tice, and her husband, Bill; and 12 great-grandchildren. Leona was a member of North Oak Christian Church, where she was baptized at age 92. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to North Oak Christian Church, 9900 N Oak Trfwy, Kansas City, MO 64155. Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Floral Hills. Burial will follow. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm, at the chapel.
