He was born September 6, 1936 in Lilse, MO to William and Daisy Hocker.
Dave, the youngest of seven children, grew up working on his family farm in southern Cass County and was a graduate of Archie High School, class of 1954. He served his country during the Korean War as an Auto Mechanic in Germany for the Army from 1954 to 1956.
Upon his discharge from the service, Dave settled in Grandview, MO where he started his family and eventually moved to Belton. He had three children of his own and gained 2 bonus children when he married Maureen Hocker, his beloved wife of 52 years. He continued to serve the community as a reserve police officer in Grandview as well as being very active in the Boy Scouts with his sons. Dave retired from Cain’s Coffee after 34 years as their service manager. His retirement brought about his favorite time of life. He and Maureen were part of a group called “Helping Hands” that traveled the country in their motorhomes to help build churches. He loved his family very much but above all, he loved God and lived an honorable life.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents: William and Daisy Hocker; six siblings: Mary Ella Hocker, Robert Hocker, Arlene Johnson, Merle Kelly, Lois Grummer and Carol Simmons and son-in-law Harry Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Maureen Hocker; children: Michael Hocker of Arlington, TX, Dr. Debra Taylor of Russellville, AR, Kathy Ray (Allyn Vise) of St Charles, MO, Terry Rivers (Dawn Rivers) of Belton, MO and Connie Morlan (Duane Morlan) of Lakeport, CA; grandchildren: Rev. Sarah Lowenberg (Rev. Michael Lowenberg), Valery Webb (Brandon Armstrong), Andrew Webb, Nicole Morlan, Joshua Rivers (Kaitlyn Rivers), Linda Newland (Andrew Newland), and Brandon Rivers; great grandchildren: Melisa Lowenberg, Mayson Lowenberg, Gabriel Lowenberg, Rylie Armstrong, Violet Armstrong, and Declan Armstrong as well as multitude of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in Dave’s name to Shriner’s Hospital for Children
A visitation for Dave will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A committal service will occur Monday, April 18, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Mount Moriah Cemetery South10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
