It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kent Brian Fischer, age 64, who died on May 25, 2024. He passed away at home in Independence, Missouri.
Kent was a cherished son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and best friend to many. His warmth, quick wit, generosity, and devotion shaped our lives.
Kent was born in Independence, Missouri on November 2, 1959 to Eugene “Buddy” and Mary Faye Fischer, the second of three children. Kent attended Truman High School (1978) before studying Industrial Safety at the University of Central Missouri (1982), going on to work in the insurance industry. In work, Kent ensured safe environments, and in life, he did the same for his dear ones.
Kent grew up enjoying little league, swim team, Pop Warner football, and neighborhood shenanigans. He was a proud Eagle Scout. Kent began playing basketball in grade school and continued to play with friends for decades at the Sugar Creek Gym. A devoted Missouri University and Kansas City sports fan (and passionate KU hater!), Kent and his treasured “Old Blue” Dodge pickup could often be found tailgating with friends. Kent also enjoyed discussing music, movies, and good food. He joined BBQ cooking competitions and shared his delicious smoked meats at many family dinners. Kent loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and escaped the city limits to go 4-wheeling or winter camping in the snow. He always prioritized family and holiday gatherings, including each grand-niece and nephew’s birthday parties each year. Kent lovingly ensured exceptional care and attention to his aging mother and made sure she was never alone long.Throughout his life, Kent would find reasons to be with his people, and his presence would transform any time they were together into a celebration.
Kent was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Fischer, and is survived by his mother Mary Faye Fischer of Independence, MO; siblings: Beth Tucker (Gerald), and Brad Fischer; nieces/nephew: Ann (Andrew) Weiss of Independence MO, Lydia Vogt of Arlington, VA, Paul (Becki) Tucker of Independence, MO, and Rachel (Bryan) Oliver of Independence, MO; and 15 great nieces and nephews.
We cannot fully articulate the devastation of losing Kent, and we will miss his presence deeply. The impact of Kent’s jovial spark and faithfulness in our lives will continue to guide and comfort us.
A visitation for Kent will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 6, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. An intimate graveside service for close extended family will take place onsite. All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, honorary donations to Pop Warner Little Scholars, and cards are welcome. Please direct correspondence to Mary Faye Fischer at Benton House of Blue Springs.
Thank you for sharing your memories here and joining us in celebrating Kent’s life and love as we grieve his loss together.
