On July 10, 1948 Kathryn married her high school sweetheart Melvin E Hogan. They grew up together and took care of each other, he was the love of her life. They were married for 59 years. They had two daughters, Rebecca and Rose. They had five grandchildren Jason (Nicki), Christopher (Misty), Brian (Nay), Kimberly, Anissa and eight great grandchildren, Leah and Abigail (Jason and Nicki), Michael and Kaylynne (Christopher and Misty), Eliana and Annabelle (Brian and Nay), Myla and Dominic (Anissa).
She became involved in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church after they moved to Raytown in 1963. She was active in the choir, United Methodist Women, Wesley Class, and taught Sunday School. She also participated in the Raytown Community Choir. Music always played a special part in Kathryn’s life since she was a small child. She was a caregiver all her life, was “a little mother to her younger brothers” which prepared her to be mother to her own family. She was happiest when she made others happy whether it was cooking or enjoying time with family.
Kathryn passed away at KC Hospice House on December 10, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin and daughter Rebecca. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, KC Hospice House, or the Shepherd’s Center of Raytown.
A visitation for Kathryn will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A committal service will occur Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133.
