Judy Lynne Sickler, 81, born July 17, 1942, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 20, 2024, after a long and harrowing illness. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her, including Chuck Sickler, her husband of 48 years, whom she married on Christmas Eve 1975; her children, Jeff Mason, of Houston, Texas; Kelly Taula, of Independence, Missouri; and stepson Steven (Nina) Sickler, of Jacksonville, Florida; her grandchildren Adam (Jasmin) Taula and Sarah Taula, of Independence, and step-granddaughter Ava Sickler, of Jacksonville; and her three precious great-grandchildren; Taden; Jada, and Lanei, of Independence.
Judy grew up in Raytown, Missouri, where she graduated from Raytown High School in 1960. She moved to Texas for nearly two decades in 1976, but eventually moved back to Raytown in 1994 where she lived until her passing. . Judy and her first husband adopted Jeff and Kelly both as newborns, and as soon as she got a computer and the Internet in her home, Judy put her fingertips to work, and began searching for and located Jeff and Kelly’s first families and became lifelong friends with all of them.
Judy was an avid reader and was never far from her Kindle, having read well over 1,600 books. She loved her “foofoo drinks” as Chuck would call them, always “venti quad no foam lattes” from Starbucks every single day, and she had a voracious sweet tooth for pastries. Judy loved all of her dogs, poodles and schnauzers, over the years with her whole heart, particularly her beloved schnauzer Pearl, who passed away at 18 years of age just six months before Judy. She loved shopping and eating out and made genuine friends with salespeople and restaurant workers all over town. She could be counted on to always wear the cutest outfits; perfectly accessorized from head to toe, hair and nails always on point. Judy went to the same hairstylist for decades, Katy Gammill, whom Judy adored, and Katy is giving Judy an amazing gift of a final styling that we are so grateful for.
Judy was very special to her online adoptee community where she was known as “Mama J”, and they were absolutely like family to her.
We would like to say a special thank you to the ICU staff at Saint Luke’s East Hospital. The doctors, nurses, respiratory staff, cafeteria staff, housekeeping, everyone was absolutely wonderful, respectful, and so caring.
To say we are heartbroken at the loss of this amazing woman is an understatement, but we also know her little body was ready and she is now at peace, no longer in pain, and can finally breathe freely and comfortably, and that gives us peace.
Save me a seat, Mom!
