Celebration of Life will be at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 E 47th St, Kansas City, MO 64133 on June 16, 2022, from 5 o’clock to 7:30.
Joe was born on May 22, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri to Thomas & Louwana McNamara. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School and Raytown South High School. Joe played grade school basketball, soccer, and 3 & 2 Baseball. In his younger years, Joe also refereed basketball and 3 & 2 baseball. He loved coaching and was actively involved with his kids’ and nephews’ sports teams.
Over the last 30 years he worked in the Industrial Insulation Industry for 4-State Supply, Specialty Products & Insulation, and Bay Insulation.
Joe was the greatest cook; a true grill master and always the life of the party. He is notorious for his crock pot dishes with anything left in the fridge that somehow came out perfect. His legacy at Chiefs tailgates have been passed to his nephew Lucas and friend Matt, who aspire to make him proud. The world won’t be the same place without the funniest, strongest, and one of the most badass men we know.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph & Jessie Shortino, Hugh & Theresa McNamara, parents Thomas & Louwana McNamara, and Sister in Laws Janet & Kristina McNamara. He is survived by his rock – his wife Tricia McNamara, brothers Thomas McNamara Jr., John McNamara, sisters Cindy (Greg) Hubler, Anne McNamara Snoddy (Tom); children Ashley, Alexi (Ryan Perryman), Garrett and Sarah McNamara, Megan Wyatt (Michael) and Nick Wyatt. Grandchildren Zander, Silas & Lennon Perryman, and Emery Smith and nieces and nephews Lucas, Sabita, Jessica, Patrick, Monica, Sean, Jennifer and Aaron McNamara, Ryan, Brisela, Adam and Bobbie Hubler, Zach Snoddy, George & Maureen Thomas, and many aunts and uncles.
Joe fought a long, hard battle with pulmonary fibrosis that included a double lung transplant and lung rejection. The medical staff at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis were there for Joe, Trish and the McNamara family, especially Dr’s Witt and Byers and Stacie. We can all attest - he is one stubborn, strong, Irish fighter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in name of Joe McNamara to the EM Thomas Lung Transplant Fund in care of The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital; 1001 Highlands Plaza Drive West, Suite 140; St. Louis, MO, 63110; or online at foundationbarnesjewish.org.
