Richard was born June 16, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Old Saint Joseph's Hospital at Linwood and Prospect. He was a Kansas City resident for his entire life. Richard was the only child of his parents, Alvin and Anna Broyles. He was a 1961 graduate of Ruskin High School. During his high school years, he worked at Hillcrest Country Club, Flag Bros Shoe Store and Thomas McCann Shoe Store at Blue Ridge Mall. The summer after High School graduation Richard worked at the Missouri State Highway Department and that fall went to University in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Richard attended Weaver School of Real Estate in Kansas City. He was an Eagle Scout and a hardway member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was employed by Black, Sivals & Bryson. He was also employed by Kansas City Missouri Fire Department, and Mt. Moriah Funeral Home. He was a Missouri State licensed Funeral Director, a Missouri State licensed Real Estate Agent and a Board Certified Missouri State Notary Public. Richard owned and operated Broyles Antiques for over 40 years. He managed and maintained all of his own rental properties, Broyles Properties, since 1970. He also owned a used car dealership since 1995.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Anna Broyles. He is survived by his wife, Betty Rhoden Broyles of the home and his son Joseph Broyles II.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. A committal service will occur at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
