A visitation for Jeff will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Jeff was born on August 31, 1968, in Monmouth, IL, to Ron and June Pinson. He attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. He also received an MBA from the University of California Irvine.
After graduation from U of I, Jeff worked as a chemical engineer for Champion International and Liquid Carbonic and upon completion of his MBA, he had a progressive career in corporate finance at companies such as Pepsi-Cola, Sprint and most recently at Empower Retirement.
In 1993, he married Janice (Goodman) Pinson (divorced 2009). They had two children together: Hannah (1998) and Max (2001). In 2020, he became engaged to Mireille (Mimi) Jones-Lachi.
Jeff had a lifelong passion for the arts. He was a musician and played multiple instruments, including piano (self-taught), saxophone, and bass guitar. He also regularly enjoyed sports. A former baseball player himself, he enjoyed watching professional baseball games, especially the Chicago Cubs like his dad. He was also known to cheer for Mizzou basketball and football to support his daughter's alma mater, unless they were playing against his beloved Fighting Illini. Throughout much of his adult life, he enjoyed a game of golf or even a few hours at the driving range or the mini golf course with his children.
He was very proud of both of his children and never tired of talking about them and taking joy in their accomplishments. He was excited to see Hannah start excelling in her career at Hallmark after graduating from the University of Missouri Journalism school. He was an avid fan and very proud of his son, Max, who is a musician and performer. He made it a priority to attend all the kids events and was known for his obsession with Max's high school and college a cappella singing groups (even when Max was no longer in the group). Together they all enjoyed so many outings, meals, playing games, bad jokes, and endless hours on long drives.
Jeff has always had a soft spot for animals. He often stopped in the middle of the road to save turtles and other animals. He loved Hannah's dog, Dallas, and his nephew Chris's dog, Truman. Additionally, he owned many pets throughout his life, both with his family and on his own. He took care of his mother's cat, Abby, after his mother's passing and he now owned two cats with Mimi, Sheba and Ziggy, that he adored.
In recent years, Jeff enjoyed spending time at his house in the Lake of the Ozarks. He had a pontoon boat that he was happy to take for a spin around the lake anytime. His dock was perfect for fishing, one of his favorite summer pastimes, or hosting family and friends for long days on the water.
Jeff was a loving and proud father and son. He was preceded in death by his father, Ron, and his mother, June.
He is survived by both of his children, Hannah and Max; his fiancée, Mimi; his fiancée's children, Zoë and Zach; his former wife, Janice; his older brother, Leonard, and his wife, Rian; his sister, Ronda, and her wife, Vicki; his nephews, Chris, Marshall, and Owen; and his niece, Emma. He will be missed deeply by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Starlight Theater. Jeff was a strong supporter and lover of the arts, especially performances at Starlight, and enjoyed Max's participation in Starlight's youth program.
