She retired from Truman Medical Center after 30 years of dedicated nursing. She was a strong, devoted single mother that worked her way to a BSN in Nursing, which led to her teaching clinicals and nursing classes. Janet loved reading, traveling and tinkering with computers. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and her kitty, Callie. Janet loved Jesus and raised her children in that love.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Aileen B. Elrod; father, Harold E. Elrod; brother, Harold E. Elrod Jr; stepmother, Celestine Elrod; and son-in-law, John R. Kelly.
She is survived by her sister, Judith A. Kilby; daughters, Teresa M. Olsen (Paul), Shelly L. Kelly; son, Kenneth E. Figgins; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, service 2 PM, on Monday, December 27, at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
