Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be 10 am Friday, June 22, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1625 NW O'Brien Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Burial will be 10 am Monday, June 25, 2018 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Jim was born August 6, 1932 in Grass Creek, Indiana and is the son of Everett and Florence Mae (Jones) Cunningham. He graduated from high school in Grass Creek. Following high school he volunteered and served in the US Army. He was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He then attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. After moving to Kansas City in 1963, where he raised his family, he worked for Midwest Research Institute and retired from the Robert P. Ingram Company.
Jim was a sports fanatic and especially enjoyed the Kansas City Royals and Big 12 KU Basketball. He participated in and coached several team sports including softball and volleyball. Jim volunteered at a local hospital, numerous sporting events as well as local charity functions. Most important in his life was his family and time spent together. He was loved by many. Anyone who knew Jim, knows that he was one of the most kindest and caring individuals. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 33 years and lifelong friend, Vida Jane (Brown) Cunningham, sister, Julia Ann Moore and brother, John Robert Cunningham.
He is survived by his children, Brent (Carol) Cunningham, Craig (Beth) Cunningham and Leslie (Marty) Dujakovich, grandchildren, Miles, Lilianna, Sarah (Brent), Stephanie (Dan), Jessica (Dan), Stan, Elise and Brett, great grandchildren, Uriah and Henry, numerous extended family and friends.
