Jackie lived many places in her 91 years of life, but her heart was where she was born, Raytown Missouri. If you need to know anything about Raytown, she could tell you! She was a proud graduate of Raytown High School, an athlete on the basketball team and pep squad.
Raytown High is where she met the man with whom she would enjoy 55 years of marriage, Richard Britt. Jackie and Richard had four children; David (Joann), Steven, Lauree Hanson (Cris), and Kathy Ferguson (Jeff). She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren, all of whom she loved with all her energy. Jackie is now reunited in Heaven with those who preceded her in death; husband, Richard, son, David, daughter, Lauree, and grandchildren, Michael, Adam, and Kelsi. Jackie was also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
Jackie and Richard lived in many places, and even had 3 homes at one point in time. Home areas included Vero Beach, Florida; Jaffrey and Rindge, New Hampshire; Raytown, Lexington, Thomas Hill Reservoir, Kansas City and Branson, Missouri. Jackie was an active volunteer in all of her communities, and especially in her church homes. She served as president of the Lexington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed the task of buying for the gift shop. It is certain during that time the gift shop had a bit more sparkle and bling.
Jackie’s social character did not go unnoticed. Perhaps a first glimpse was her very first day of grade school. Her mother worried when she didn’t come home after school. Jackie had decided to go home with a new friend, of which her mother had no idea until she got a phone call from the new friend’s mother. This trait followed her through life. Even in her late 80s, she would enjoy sitting in front of her townhouse, with her red lipstick, awaiting a neighbor walking by to visit. She spent her last year and a half at McCrite Plaza, a long-term care facility, where she was cared for and comfortable. She became a favorite there, showing her spirited personality. And yet, she also reportedly told them she loved them.
Jackie’s talents were many. She was a wonderful cook. Roasted chicken and homemade noodles were awaiting a daughter-in-law when she came home with a new baby. Sunday fare was always homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy after church. She was a seamstress, quilter, knitter & did embroidery. She knitted slippers in quantity, even sharing with all of Kathy’s friends in high school.
Her faith in Christ was part of her core. She had a prayer list for others. Once you were placed on it, you remained on it until death. Her love showed in her giving and generous nature. It didn’t matter if your food bill was just $25, a tip less than $15 was just not acceptable. If you knew Jackie, you no doubt received a birthday or Christmas card. She lived and loved in so many places.
