Ivan Lavon Johnson, age 92, of Lees Summit, Missouri joined Our Father in Heaven on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Ivan was born October 12, 1929 in Ethel, Missouri to Albert and Maxine Johnson. He was married on February 25, 1950 to his lifelong soulmate, Marie A. Day. Ivan and Marie were blessed with three children: Debbie (Jim) Singleton, Mike Johnson and Doug (Karen) Johnson.
They have six grandchildren: Jason (Amanda) Singleton, Kim (James) Watson, Kristi (Dustin) Herschberger, Chad (Melissa) Johnson, Dusty (Lais) Johnson and Jamie (Anthony) Amspacker.
They were also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren: Lexi, Haley, Graham, Ashford, Kendall, Lindsey, Kate, Karly, Tristin, Brek, Tate, Britton, Truitt, Brylee, Landon and Autumn. They attended as many school and sporting activities for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as possible.
Ivan joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard the USS Noble. He received an honorable discharge and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight more years.
He was a model maker for Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell for more than 30 years.
Ivan served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 275. He enjoyed the many campouts and hikes that he had with his sons, future son-in-law and others.
Ivan and Marie were members of Longview Chapel Christian Church located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where they volunteered many hours of service as deacons, greeters, hospitality chairmen, newsletter coordinators and wherever else they were needed. Ivan enjoyed serving the Lord in any way that he could.
No matter where they lived, Ivan and Marie enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors. They were regular attendees of the Sara Circle driveway get-togethers.
Ivan was preceded in death by his wife Marie, son Michael, his parents and granddaughter Krystal Johnson. He is survived by his sisters Donna Hartung and Sandra Wright and brother-in-law James Day.
Ivan was a hard-working man who loved his God, his country and his family. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Ivan will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A funeral service will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A graveside service with full military honors will occur from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
