Horace Stephen "Steve" Davis Sr, 74, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on May 15 from complications of esophageal cancer. Steve was born in 1948 to Gloria Steed Davis and Millard Len Davis in Fairway, KS.
Steve attended school at Pembroke Country Day School for grades K through 8 school and Shattuck in Faribault, MN for High School. After attending several colleges without finding direction in life, he prayed to meet a woman. Soon after he said God answered his prayers when he met his wife, Bonnie.
After marrying Bonnie, the two spent time traveling the country so Steve could race Formula Fords. When that pursuit ended, he began repairing airplanes at the Johnson County Executive airport before deciding to attend the Kansas City Art Institute. His art was an outlet for creativity. His preferred medium for his art painting was oil on canvas.
In 1978 when his son Stephen was born, Bonnie and Steve changed the focus of their life to raising their son. Steve was a wonderful father who use his creativeness to build amazing things from airplane cockpits to a unique camouflage treehouse for his son to enjoy.
After joining Village Presbyterian Church with his family, Steve enjoyed worship at the Celebration Service, volunteered at the Village Church Food Pantry, and in more recent years Steve found great joy at the Gathering service. Steve really enjoyed the music and fellowship.
His interests included cars, airplanes, models, gardening, comic books, British television, especially Dr Who, James Bond, sailboats, RV’s, astronomy, and art. Steve also found happiness in feeding wildlife. He loved his dog “Bella” and found comfort in knowing he would be reunited with all his pets and family members in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Gloria Davis, brother, Barry Davis and sister-in-law, Mindy Davis and twin granddaughters Annabelle and Tate. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Davis, son Horace Stephen Davis, Jr. (Brandi), his three grandchildren Addalyn, Eloise and Oliver, nieces Kelly (Andy) Rice and Sally Groesbeck (Eli) and Cousin Alex (Cathy) Rosser.
Per Steve’s wishes, he was cremated. His ashes will be interred in the Village Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Family and friends are invited to the memorial service beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Operation Wildlife; https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/21124
