He was born on June 27, 1946 in Memphis, TN to Harry and Shirley Hylander. In the 1950s, he moved with his mother and stepfather, William Wise, to Kansas City, MO. On his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1963-1967 including in 2 tours of Vietnam.
After dutifully serving his country, Harry was honorably discharged, returned to Kansas City, and attended the Kansas City Police Academy. He joined the University of Missouri - Kansas City police department as a patrolman in 1970, and worked his way up to the Assistant Director of University Police until retiring in 2005 after nearly 35 years of service.
Harry loved to watch the Chiefs and the Royals and to showoff his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his stepfather Master Sgt. (Ret.) William Wise,U.S. Air Force, his sister Kelly Wise Bradley, his children Staff Sgt. John (Molly) Hylander, U.S. Army, and Sarah (Staff Sgt. Nicholas, U.S. Air Force) Alder, his grandchildren Emma, Layla, John, and Aubrey, a niece, nephews, and Godchildren.
