He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine (Cannon) Callen; his wife of 53 years, Janet (Fore) Callen; his son, Kirk Callen; his mother, Stella (Gildersleeve) Callen; and his father, Delbert Callen. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Scott Coffman, and his only grandchild, James Harlan Coffman, all of Olathe, KS; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sandra (Harmon) Callen of Vancouver, Washington; his niece, Lisa (Callen) Farrell and her family, also of Vancouver, Washington; and his nephew, Daniel Callen and his family of Overland Park, KS.
Harlan graduated from Central Missouri State University with a degree in business administration, and he then joined the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class and was stationed at Oxnard AFB, CA. After the Air Force, he worked as an executive with Hallmark Cards until his retirement in 1992, an association of which he was very proud. He was a big fan of the Royals, Chiefs and Jayhawks and in his younger years, enjoyed amateur photography and pheasant hunting.
Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30th, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Heartland Community Church in Olathe, KS or Unleashed Pet Rescue in Mission, KS.
