George was born 2/14/1926 near Enterprise, KS to George and Lillie Hanson. He grew up on a farm and attended school in Abilene, KS before serving in the Navy during WWII. George attended college at K-State, KU, and Stanford Universities, graduating from KU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While attending KU, he met the girl next door, Dolores, who was his loving wife for 64 years. He started his engineering career with Standard Oil (AMOCO) at the Sugar Creek, MO refinery. He continued working for AMOCO for over 30 years, taking advantage of assignments overseas. With his wife and 4 children, their adventures included traveling the world and living in England, Wales, and Iran. George retired from AMOCO's flagship refinery in Whiting, IN in 1986. In his retirement years, George was involved with mission work in Mozambique, Liberia, South Africa, Honduras, Haiti, Jamaica, and Nicaragua. He was active in his local community and church, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and REAP (Raytown Emergency Assistance Program). George made friends everywhere he traveled and kept in touch with many of them through the years.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Kristen; parents; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
George is survived by four children, Pamela (Rick) Wheaton, Jan (George) Fakoury, Jeff Hanson, Johanna (Jim) Doll; his sister, Kathryn Andrews; grandchildren, Kristen Wheaton, Chris and Molly Fakoury, Hannah Hanson, Carter, Lucas, and Ethan Doll. George also leaves behind his faithful companion Truman the cat.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00pm on Thursday, January 31st at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February 1st at Floral Hills followed by graveside committal services at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. A memorial service at Kingswood Manor will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George and Dolores Hanson Global Scholarship at Metropolitan Community College, 3200 Broadway St., Attn: Jessica Ramirez, Kansas City, MO 64111-9902 or to REAP, 9300 E. 75th, Raytown, MO 64138.
