Betty was born July 25, 1922 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Daniel Lee Richey and Mary Elizabeth Sangster. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1940. She attended the University of Wichita, where she took up clarinet, tennis and tenor saxophone in the All Girl 92’s Band. She graduated cum laude with a major in Economics, accounting and a minor in English, math and music in 1944. Betty was president of Pi Kappa Psi sorority and Pep Club. She then joined the navy and was an avid member of the “Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service” or WAVES from October, 1944 to December, 1945 as an Ensign, commissioned at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. As a Region VII Representative of Bluegrass Unit #129 of WAVES, she hosted group meetings in Louisville, Kentucky where she lived for many years. She earned an MBA in business administration and had many work experiences including the IRS and Department of Energy. Betty loved traveling and was a member of Elderhostel. She loved teaching piano which she did for 15 years.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, former husband, Dr. Bill McIntosh, her two sons, Martin Wayne and Michael James. She is survived by her loving nephews, nieces and cousins.
