Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Buchanan, 74, passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2016. Born in Louisiana in 1941, Liz graduated from Grambling University with a Major in Elementary Education. She moved to Kansas City with two young boys in 1963 when her husband Buck Buchanan was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. Liz’s love of children led her to be a school teacher and child care provider. She also started her own business as a hair stylist operating her business out of her home. Liz was a friend to many and a warm, loving mother and grandmother.
Liz is survived by her children Eric, Dwaine and Nichole Buchanan; grandchildren Jack and Davis Buchanan; siblings Lucille Alexander, Fannie Williams and Tina Harmon. She was preceded in death by her parents Bishop O.B. Pete, Sr. and Sadie Pete; siblings Rev. O.B. Peter, Jr., Willie Pete and Sadie Hawthorne; and her daughter-in-law Nikki Buchanan.
Services will be held Saturday, February 20th, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, 64131. Visitation will be 12pm-1pm with service immediately following. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
