Eddie was a graduate of the class of 1966 at Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas where he excelled as an avid swimmer. He had a great voice which gifted him a position in a singing group, he could dance (the smoothest two stepping machine you have ever seen) and he was always very proud to have been a member of the Varrios Social Club. It is said that Eddie was one of the sharpest to walk the halls of Sumner High and the community. Later in life he was honored to be named a Black Man of Distinction, at the Friends of Yates Black Men and Women of Distinction annual Black History Program.
He learned to be a master carpenter by working alongside his father and his father's twin brother (Uncle) Earl McCord (predeceased). He always respected the responsibility of hard work and at the tender age of 10 years old secured his first job as a paperboy for the Kansas City Call Newspaper. Soon to follow would be the Golden Ox Steakhouse and Gustin and Bacon Manufacturing Company. While over the years, there would be a few other jobs, Eddie spent the bulk of his working years as a Utility worker at Ford Motor Company mastering a wide variety of positions throughout the plant. During his time at Ford, he became a very popular fixture, he was well liked and highly respected. After 29 years of dedicated service he retired with the accomplishment of NEVER missing a day and ALWAYS being on time, no matter the weather.
Ed always loved fashion and was quite the dapper dresser. He had style and taste. His wardrobe included but was not limited to a plethora of designer clothes, shoes, coats and accessories. One of his sayings was "Everybody is crazy about a sharp dressed man."
He became a father at an early age and was very devoted to his children. There was not anything that he would not or did not do for the love of them.
In the early 1990's, Ed met his love Nina, and they married on July 1, 1994. The two of them loved to travel together and enjoyed taking road trips, visiting family in various states. A couple of his other hobbies were landscaping and barbecuing. On some of the hottest summer days, it would not be unusual to find him manicuring his yard, planting flowers or polishing off some other yard project; and it is a fact that some of the most delicious and tender meat ever tasted, came from his grill.
Edward's everlasting memories will be cherished by his beautiful wife of 27 years, Nina Jo Whiteside-McCord, four children; Edward Leon Moore, Rachel Kaye (McCord) Walton, Angela Leona McCord, Brandon LeRoy McCord and his beloved cat Pumpkin. Also sharing memories and continuing his legacy are seven grandchildren; Trevor Reliford, Brandon Saquille Hakeem McCord (predeceased), Keenen McCord, DaMaih McCord, Keirstin-Brooke Walton, Sy'Erre McCord and Brixx McCord. He will surely be missed by his dearly loved siblings; Derrick McCord, Brian McCord, Berla Johnson and Vanessa Benson (Patrick), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, family, friends, and childhood friends.
