It is with great heartbreak that the family of Eduardo (aka, Eddie) Lopez announce his passing at the age of 74 on December 14, 2022 with his family by his side. Eduardo was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Erie Sr. and Ruth J. (deceased). He has five siblings, Manuel, Erie Jr., Ricardo, Nancy (deceased), and Mark. He attended Switzer School, West Jr. and graduating from Lillis H.S. (66’). He earned an Associate degree in Applied Science.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and the U.S Army Reserves during Desert Storm, retiring as Staff Sergeant, serving between 68' to 94'. He was a U.S. Postal carrier for 42 years “who could deliver the hell out of the mail, “as his wife always told him. In the U.S. Postal Service, he became very involved in the National Association of Letter Carriers and continued after retiring. He was a Union delegate for both State and National Conventions, Union Stewart, and a Trustee of the Board.
Eduardo’s biggest accomplishment was being a father to his three children, Diana, Joseph, and David. Though a small man in stature he was bigger in life to them, helping them through their ups and downs and to work hard, always emphasizing that no matter what family comes first, but most of all enjoy life. He was active in their elementary school, Redemptorist, as a basketball coach, who had an old school way of teaching that even led the team to winning 2 championships.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 53 years; children, Diana, Joseph (former partner, Cynthia Campos), David (Greg Mikelson). He leaves behind four grandchildren, Alexandria, Jacob, Anthony, and Vanessa, and two great-great-grandchildren, Kylo Cortez and Lucia Ann Lopez.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore, Kansas City, MO. 64111. Mass of Christian Burial at Redemptorist Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. Following the service will be a display of full military honors.
