Dovey Naomi Kuntz

Dovey Naomi Kuntz, 96, passed away August 17, 2013. Naomi was born on December 2, 1916 in White Hall, Illinois to Frank and Dovey (Ashley) Harvey. She spent her childhood in Ottawa and Baldwin, Kansas. She met her husband, Clyde while working at Loose Wilde Bakery in the West Bottoms in Kansas City, Missouri. They were married in 1937 in Olathe, Kansas and settled in Pueblo, Colorado; where their only child, Greg was born and raised. While in Colorado, Naomi devoted her time to taking care of her son and house, not working outside the home. In 1960 they moved back to Kansas City.

After Clyde passed away, Naomi worked for the Grandview School District in the cafeteria. She also worked as a companion sitter and in the kitchen of a nursing home during her career. She always loved working with and being around people, especially children. Naomi also loved to travel. She and her sister, Gladys, would take bus trips together, and she was always up for the latest family summer vacation adventure. Naomi was small in stature, but mighty in spirit. She had a ready smile and laugh and would join in on any prank or joke. She was the ultimate secret keeper and tireless shopping companion….one cup of coffee could keep her going for hours!

One of the most important things in Naomi’s life was her family. Naomi was a supporter of whatever was going on in their lives and always enjoyed hearing about the latest happenings with each of them. Naomi was a great care taker whether it was for a family member, friend or beloved pet. She had a gentle touch and a way of knowing just what to say or do to make you feel better. She was very close and involved with each family member, especially as her granddaughters were growing up, and her great-grandchildren were blessed to have her close and involved as they have grown up as well. Naomi was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Naomi is survived by her son Greg Kuntz (Marilyn), Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters Susan Higgins (Brian), Olathe, Kansas and Sheri Kuntz, Kansas City, Missouri; and great grandchildren Austin & Addison Higgins, Olathe, Kansas.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Mt Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Graveside services to follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Red Bridge United Methodist Church, 636 E. 117th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
