

Dorothy Jeane Wood Bertram, 87, of Kansas City died July 30 in Kansas City. A private family memorial service will be held this week at Lake Quivera, Kansas, and a celebration of life service will be held later this fall in Ozark County.
She was born June 28, 1929, in Ozark County, the daughter of Mary Gault Wood and Vester “Chunk” Wood. She grew up in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1946.
In 1947 in Gainesville, she married Joe Rex Bertram. She worked at her mother’s beauty shop in Gainesville, and later she joined her husband in their over-the-road trucking business, sometimes traveling with him cross-country and later keeping the trucking company’s books.
They lived in Springfield and later moved to Wichita, Kansas, in the late 1970s. There, Mrs. Bertram went to work for the Boeing aircraft company when she was 50 years old. She retired from Boeing after working there several years.
In the 1990s, she reconnected with her nine Wood-family siblings, and they developed a very close relationship and enjoyed visiting and traveling together. She was a strong supporter of American veterans, and she loved animals. After her move last year to an independent living facility, she developed a talent for jewelry-making; several pieces of her jewelry will be sold by the facility as a fundraiser.
She is survived by her three children: Scott Bertram and wife Suzie of Lake Quivera, Kansas, Barry Bertram and wife Rosalyn of Kansas City, and Gina Hoffman of Overland Park, Kansas: three grandchildren: Ben Bertram, Blair Matyszczyk and husband Tom, and Sam Hoffman; siblings, Jody Wooldridge & R.L. Cox of Branson, Joyce & Dan Boone of Spring Mills,PA, Mike & Jody Wood of Wright City, Mo, Rick & Karla Wood of Fremont Hills, Mo Randy Wood of Rogersville, Mo Ron & Nora Stehle of Theodosia, Mo, Judy wood & Bruce Wade of Springfield Mo, and many nieces and nephews. Liffelong friend Loretta Bushong Walker of Gainesville; and dear friend and sister-in-law Dixie Adair of Rose Hill, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sisters Pat Miller and Maudie Ann Lawson.

Details of the Ozark County celebration of life will be published later in the Times. Relatives and friends will be invited to share stories and memories of Mrs. Bertram’s life.
