Doris Ilene Shields

Doris was born July 21, 1928 in Hertha, Kansas. Her parents were John E. Steinmitz and Anna E. Steinmitz. She grew up in Parsons, Kansas and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri at age 15. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1946 and graduated from Research Hospital's Nursing School in 1949 with a Diploma in Nursing. She worked as a surgical scrub nurse for an orthopedic group in Kansas City.

She married Hoyt Shields on January 11, 1957. They had 2 children. John born January 9, 1959 and Sarah born May 1, 1961.

Doris loved cooking, sewing, bowling and bird watching. She was an avid sports fan! Loved the Chiefs, Royals and KU Jayhawks. She had a great interest in her grandchildren's activities. She went to many cross county and track meets and attended many band concerts and band competitions.

She was preceded in death by her parents John E. and Anna E. Steinmitz, brothers Jack Steinmitz, Glenn Steinmitz and sisters Evelyn Helman and Dorothy Sanders.

Survivors are son John H. Shields and spouse Kathy of Belton Missouri, daughter Sarah J. Hoyt and spouse Howard of Lee's Summit, Missouri. Grandchildren Alan Shields, Jeff Shields, Megan Speaks and Jacob Hoyt. Great-granddaughter Phoebe Speaks.

Visitation is at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri followed by a Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
