Denisia “Nia” Grampsas Mitchell, 94, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Her visitation, 9:00 am and her funeral, 10:00 am will be Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation at 12001 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri, 64145. The Rev. Constantine L Sinos will officiate the services with burial in Calvary Cemetery, KCMO.
Nia, born November 18, 1923, was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City Area. She was beloved by her husband, George Angelo Mitchell; daughters Sandra Mitchell Spector (Neil) and Pamela Mitchell Ruhl (Mark). She loved her large extended family; her church where she was a lifelong member; her church family and her Greek Heritage. She retired from Sears & Roebuck, Co. where she enjoyed many lifelong friends. She followed her career from Sears with a position with the Raytown School District with the “before and after daycare program”. Through her love of children; her strong will and integrity; her playful spirit she was able to make a difference in many of these children’s futures.
Nia and her parents, Spiro and Sophia Grampsas were active members of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation. She was a member of the Greek Ladies’ Philoptochos Society and a founding member of the VIP Club for Seniors at the church where she served on many committees; held offices, as well as donating her time and resources to many church activities and fund raisers. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and needle pointing many gifts for friends and family.
Nia was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse of 46 years, George; her siblings: Helen, Tony and Katherine. Survivors include her two daughters and her brother Denny Grampsas.
