He died in Kansas City, Missouri on June 22nd, 2022 at the age of 94. Delbert was a huge fan of keyboard music. He majored in music in college at the University of Kansas. After a short time teaching he decided music would be a hobby not a vocation and went to work in Administration at Black and Veatch Engineering where he stayed his entire working career. His interest in music included playing the piano himself and listening to pipe organs. He went to many organ concerts both in and out of town. He played keyboards into his 90's. He also enjoyed the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and spent many hours there appreciating the exhibits. Another passion of Delbert's was old movies. He watched many of the black and white classics and could quote from their great lines. He was in the Army following World War II, serving in administrative capacities in Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his partner of many years, John Herbst. Delbert is survived by his niece Diana Anderson (Ken), nephew Terry Clevenger (Kim), great nephew Devin Martin (JT) with children Amelia and Carson, and great niece Dana Schaefer (Mark) with children Luke and Andrew. Interment services will be scheduled at a later date.
